Customer Review: A masterpiece!
I bought this TV as an upgrade to a Sharp Aquos 32" and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. First of it has a great design with an extremely thin profile and is lightweight. The picture quality is exceptional with almost perfect deep blacks and saturated vibrant colors. It also has some extra black level controls. The HD channels look amazing even with rabbit ears on a good reception and I suppose I don't need to say anything about how great the Bluray movies look on this set. The preloaded content is great, there are songs, stories and games for kids. It also has step by step recipes with hi-res photographs, fitness programs and slide shows of beautiful scenery and artwork. When you start running the slide show it almost feels like the TV itself is a live picture frame. There are other features such us plugging in and viewing content from a USB device, also it has internet connectivity. There are some things which I didn't like though. Firstly the Auto Motion gives a 3Dish look to the image and it feels like the foreground subjects are floating in front of the backdrops. It can also create stuttery motion with the camera pans which I had noticed while watching a TV series. So I ended up turning the Auto Motion off. And I haven't really noticed any difference with the 120hz when compared to my old 60 hz TV. Although it is depicted like it has a glowy strip of red color(touch of color) in the pictures if you don't backlight the TV, it is barely visible. The audio felt weak at first but with the Surround turned on, it was amplified to a nice level. Not the greatest sound but I guess that is acceptable for such a thin profile TV. The thin profile has some more disadvantages as the inputs on the back are not recessed so you need to keep the TV away from the wall almost double the thickness of itself if you decide to mount it without cutting through the wall. The biggest issue for me was the clouding(light areas over a completely black background) on the screen which most of the people think that this is a common issue among the LCD screens, not just in Samsung. My TV has it slightly at the lower right edge and some on the upper right. Doing a lot of research on the web, I have come to think that it might be caused by the tight screws on the back cause the lower clouding aligns perfectly with a screw hole in the back. I had seen people in forums suggesting loosening the screws but that could void warranty. Some people even claim that there is a break-in period and the clouding might go away but I have been using the TV for about a week now, it is still there. The only solution I had found which seemed to help a bit was to lower the backlight to 0 but you can still see it on the dark scenes of a movie or on the PS3 XMB background if you have a good eye. I would have given a 5 out of 5 if it weren't for this clouding issue.
Customer Review: Review of features, comparisons, pros/cons and gaming mode
I recently owned a Westinghouse 37" HDTV that I purchased 3 years ago and finally decided it was time to upgrade. I looked at all major brands such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, Panasonic and Toshiba. Of all the aforementioned brands, I found Toshiba offered the best features at a sub $1500 price point (10-bit panel, 120 hz etc)and went with it. Unfortunately the Toshiba suffered from severe flashlighting (a term that is used to describe the CCFL light showing from the corners of the television which is usually pronounced during night time viewing) and clouding. Also, the matte screen offered on the Toshiba meant the contrast would not be as good as an ultra clear panel offered by Samsung. I ended up returning the Toshiba for a refund. So I began my search for an HDTV again and this time I went to Best Buy and looked around at different television's and one set that instantly caught my attention was the Samsung LN46A850 - it had vibrant life like colors, deep blacks, and the 120 hz AMP completely blew away what I viewed on the Toshiba. The aesthetics of the Samsung are second-to-none, a thin 1.9" profile and the red TOC is simply beautiful. Although the Samsung caught my eye right away, I wanted to look around at other competing brands so I played with the Sony XBR series, LG and the much revered Pioneer Kuro. Of all those, only the Sony came close to matching the quality of the Samsung. The infamous Kuro did not impress me at all, the plasma picture was far too soft for my liking and the brightness in a well lit room was very lacking. What stopped me from purchasing the LN46A850 from Best Buy was their $2300 price. I shopped around online and was fortunate enough to get a gold box deal from Amazon for $1702 shipped! I received the TV a week later and couldn't be happier! It has uniform lighting (though some people have had issues with clouding), a myriad of options to adjust the picture to one's liking and best of all, the ultra clear panel does not reflect much light even during very sunny days (I live in Florida). The biggest complaint I have about this TV is that the sound could be better, initially it sounds like a tin can out of the box but fortunately it has an EQ feature which lets you adjust it to acceptable levels. As for gaming, many people are weary of input lag and as someone that has played games for more than 2 decades, I have yet to notice it. For those that are sensitive to input lag, the television offers a game mode and HDMI-PC mode that virtually eliminates input lag. The downside to both of the aforementioned modes is that picture adjustment options are greatly reduced and the resulting picture quality is not as good as standard mode. I will reiterate though, as a life long gamer, I don't notice the input lag at all and I think the vast majority of gamers would be hard pressed to see it. Samsung's newer LN46B750 does offer a more robust gaming mode and I wish Samsung would offer a firmware update for all their "older" models such as the A850 to have the same options but I suspect due to marketing, they will never do this. So as a gamer, if you are prone to input lag sensitivity and absolutely must have a television that has little to none, a Sony may be more suitable to your needs or an IPS based HDTV such as a Sharp (keep in mind the Sharp's PQ does not approach a Samsung). Or as I mentioned, the newer LN46B750 may be worth giving a try. Overall, I give this TV an 8/10, it would've received a perfect rating from me if it had better sound and the gaming mode was more flexible.

There was a time when finding a decent wireless router was a big challenge. Just a few years ago, you'd have to go through a few bad routers until you struck gold with a decent one. WRT54G was the most popular networking device back then. It seemed to be the only device that allowed you to install your own firmware (linux), and it performed as expected. Fast forward a few years, and we have the second generation WRT54G . The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband device is really three devices in one box. It's a WAP, which lets you connect both Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. You can also use the built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. There are four slots available which you can use to attach hubs and switches to expand your network.

This router is great for creating your own shared network. If you have multiple computers at home, you can share your files among them fast. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of files--music, digital pictures, and documents. That's much easier than having to transfer files among your PCs using a flash-drive. This device comes with WPA2 connection that protects your data and privacy with up to 256-bit industrial-strength encryption. WRT54G2 can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known hack attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. You can also put DD-WRT on it if you prefer (make sure you model is compatible).

Overall, WRT54G2 is a cool networking device that allows you to create your own home network fast. And best of all, it won't crash on you like many other networking gadgets on the market.

So you have decided you are going to mount your awesome flat panel TV on the wall. I'm about to help you make your decision a lot easier on where to mount your TV, which mount to go with, and ways for a clean installation.

Where to Mount

First you have to decide where you are going to mount the flat panel display. Do you want it in the center of the room where it only needs to face straight ahead? Above something where the TV will need to point slightly down? Want to be able to turn and rotate the display to face different areas or two adjoined rooms? This will help you decide whether to go with a low profile wall mount, tilting wall mount, or a tilting & swiveling wall mount.

  1. Low profile This type of wall mount will make the TV hang only about an inch from the wall making it look very sleek at both sides of the TV. However, this mount doesn't tilt or swivel. It simply hangs on the wall facing straight like a picture.
  2. Tilting Wall Mount Extends the TV about 2 to 4 inches from the wall. These mounts are designed to tilt from 0 up to 15 degrees up or down. This type of mount is great if you want to hang the TV up high and angle it down towards the seating areas.
  3. Tilting/Swiveling Wall Mount Can extend the TV from about 5 to 20 inches from the wall. These mounts can rotate the TV to the side and tilt up and down. Some are designed to rotate about 60 degrees to the side. These are typically dual armed in design. Others types are capable of panning completely from side to side with a single arm design. Ideal for a corner installation.

You're also going to have to decide where to put the cable/satellite box, DVD player, gaming system, etc in relation to the mounted TV. Some prefer to hide them in a cabinet, on a shelf, or even in a different room or closet (requires quite a bit more work and money)! Which ever you decide is completely up to you. However, make sure there is enough airflow where ever you choose to put your components to prevent overheating.

*Note: Mounting a TV is not for everyone and you're going to need more than one person to complete the task. You need to avoid any areas where you know there is electrical wiring or plumbing. You may want to consult a professional when installing the mount to insure a safe installation.

Will my TV Fit? What Does VESA Mean?

One common concern for people looking to buy a wall mount is whether the mounting holes on their TV will match the wall mount. A vast majority of mounts are VESA compliant. VESA is an industry standard hole pattern that most TV manufacturers have agreed to follow. Check out your TV manual for information on mounting patterns. It should say the exact VESA standard necessary for mounting, or generally state that it is VESA compliant.

To be 100% sure your TV is VESA compliant, you can measure the 4 holes on the back of your TV. Take both a verticle and horizontal measurement. This is considered your VESA standard. For example, VESA 75 x 75 means that your TVs mounting holes are 75mm apart vertically and horizontally.

Maximum weight

Make sure your TV is not too heavy for the mount! Most wall mounts specify the maximum weight supported for your mount to be safely installed.

Clean installation

Since you have decided to mount the TV on the wall in the first place, you're definitely going to want a clean installation. Some choose to hide the wires behind the wall. This is going to require some planning to figure out where the wall is hollow and how it's going to be fed to the components from the TV.

There are also some products available to help you with a clean installation.

  • Hole-cover grommets for holes made for wiring from behind the TV (available for a few dollars each from most hardware stores).
  • HDMI wall plates and Component Video & audio wall plates that will give your home theater a professionally installed look.

Cables

If you decide to feed the cables through the wall, I recommend CL2 rated cables. This will insure safety since CL2 rated cables have a slow burning outer jacket. It will also insure your house meets most fire codes.

Breakdown

Again, installation is not for everyone. There are some risks involved and you may want to hire a professional to do the work. This guide was intended to help in the planning process of buying a mount, where to install it, and ways for a clean install.

If you're wondering where to find the products mentioned in this article check out http://www.CableTrain.com to find the best prices and quality.

I hope you now have a better understanding mounting that beautiful Flat panel TV!

MP3 players have become a vital accessory in our daily lives.

Also called digital audio players, they come in a wide variety of styles, capacities, sizes, and colors. So which is the right one for you?

Hard Drive

These types of devices are the largest as far as size and have the highest capacity of all the portable audio players. They're often quite heavy and have several moveable parts, but they are very versatile.

These larger memory capacity players are great for home use and can be connected to your stereo speakers. It's possible to store entire music collections with thousands of songs on this kind of music device. Examples of hard drive players include the Apple iPod video or Sony Network Walkman NW-HD15.

Micro Hard Drive

While these may have a smaller hard drive and lower in capacity than a hard drive portable music player, they are much lighter and they definitely have more capacity than their smaller flash memory counterparts.

While they are still relatively lightweight, they still contain moveable parts, so any impact exercises, like jogging, may jar internal workings. However, these players are ideal for traveling. It is even possible to purchase an FM Transmitter that fits into your car to allow you to listen to music through your car stereo. Examples of micro hard drive players include the Apple iPod mini or Creative Labs Zen Micro.

Flash Memory

These small, very light MP3 players may have the lowest capacity, but they are amazingly portable. This makes them ideal for use while exercising or jogging.

As there are no moving parts in these small players, they're ideal for sports or active people who don't want the risk of breaking or jolting players. Examples of flash memory music players include mobiBLU Dah 1500i and Apple iPod Nano.

What Other Features Should You Look For?

You'll need to check whether it is compatible with your current computers operating system. This means checking for PC or Mac compatibility before you make your purchase. You might also find that some MP3 players include features, such as voice recorders, FM radios, and even video players.

Customer Review: Just Great - Should sell millions.
I Could not find my tv here or at the Sharp website. It may have been made for the military PX only. I have the 42 inch version of this tv. (LC-42BD80U). Well, I'm just a consumer who has looked at and read reviews on Plasma/LCD TVs for the last 5-6 years before I purchased my first one last year. (Samsung 46 inch 1080p) I don't know alot of spec lingo or jargon. All I know is that this TV is great to own and the price is good. I may have gotten it for a little less do to not having to pay tax at the PX and was given an additional discount for using a PX credit card for the fist time and no intrest for 6 months. I set the TV up and started watching TV within 30-40 minutes. I like the features, pictures and look. The only problem I had until I called Sharp was that my remote did not work when a dvd was in. The movie played fine, but I could not get it to stop, pause, fast foward of anything. 10 minutes on the phone and that problem was hsitory. I read the other reviews before mind and feel that sometimes "what you don't know you won't miss". I feel this will apply to the average buyer. The possitives over rides any negatives. We can find something negative in everthing we buy. You'll have to look hard here.
Customer Review: Very Good Overall Performance - Built in Blu-ray a Plus!
Received this 1080p LCD TV two days ago...this is an initial hands-on review. This is the first line of LCD TVs to contain a built-in Blu-ray DVD player. I needed this because of space limitations and for convenience. This TV extracts the highest resolution from Blu-ray DVDs for an exceptional picture. Conventional DVDs also produce an excellent picture and are upconverted from 480p. So far, I'm pleased. This TV will accept virtually all current video signals up to 1080p + PC input, making it as future proof as any current LCD TV. But there are some caveats. 1. TV Setup: TV is well packaged and protected. The Owners Manual is detailed and understandable. You must attach the base stand to the TV unless you intend to wall hang it. The black lacquer stand attaches easily using phillips screws and a screwdriver provided. All plastic protective coverings stayed on the TV and stand until final placement because black lacquer surfaces and LCD screens attract fingerprints and scratches. The base doesn't swivel or tilt. It is hefty and supports the TV very well. 2. Inputs abound: Seven inputs can handle most sources. They include three HDMI HDCP inputs, an Analog PC input, and various component/S-video/composite combos. Additionally, a USB input (called a Service Terminal) is provided for future firmware updates. I have an HD TiVo with HD Digital Cable service connected via HDMI. The TV and TiVo synched perfectly and the TV automatically labeled this input as TiVo...cool feature. Picture controls are adjustable for each input and maintain their settings. 3. Blu-ray Player (Profile 1.1, upgradeable): The DVD player forms a slight bulge on the rear right of the TV and is not obvious. It has a USB port for memory expansion and an ethernet port for future BD-Live capability. When a DVD is inserted into the loading slot, the TV switches to DVD input, reads the type disc and begins playing. Very easy to use! I tested two Blu-ray DVDs and two conventional DVDs without a hitch. Blu-ray DVDs took just under two minutes to load their data and play. Conventional DVDs took less than a minute. Commercial or homemade music CDs also work, however homemade MP-3 music disks will not play. The DVD player initially makes slight noises as the disk is loading. Once play starts it is silent. If there is a fan, it is very quiet. DVD functionality seems very well integrated into the electronics, remote control, and overall operation of this TV. 4. Limitations of the Blu-ray player: First, audio output to A/V receivers is bitstream via optical output in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2-channel PCM. Analog 2-channel rca outputs are also provided. None of the next generation audio formats found on Blu-ray DVDs, i.e., Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, can be output. Second, if the player fails I must return the entire TV for service. Third, this is a profile 1.1 player. The owners manual indicates it will be upgradeable to profile 2.0 at a future date. If you can live with these limitations (which I can), then convenience, space savings, and ease of use make this a valuable addition. 5. Performance: Overall excellent picture with Standard and High Definition sources, after some adjustment. Sound is about average for this size TV. Bass and Treble, along with a Surround mode are adjustable. Blu-ray DVDs display exceptional video quality. HD Cable programs are pristine. Normal DVDs look very good. Sound is boosted slightly when playing DVDs and I perceived a very slight improvement in overall dynamics. Out of the box, after some adjustments, this TV exhibits a very slight red push...not a deal breaker. This means reds were somewhat over emphasized in all picture modes. Luckily, the Color Management System allows very detailed adjustment of each of six colors in Hue, Saturation, and Value (brightness). This is in addition to the normal contrast, tint, brightness, and color controls. Additionally, backlight is adjustable (from off to full on) as are video noise reduction controls. I'm sure with the help of my Avia test DVD and some experimenting, I'll be able to tweak the picture to my liking. 6. Summary: I'm very satisfied at this point. Factoring the price of a separate Blu-ray player into the price of a quality 1080p 32inch LCD TV makes this combo a reasonable alternative to separate components in my view. Limitations aside, the convenience of having a well integrated DVD player attached to a TV makes sense for many folks.

As time goes by, people are demanding access to Satellite TV in just about any room of their home. What most people don't know that you are limited in the number of receivers or satellite boxes you can connect per dish.

Most satellite companies such as ExpressVu & Dish Network, you can connect up to two receivers using a single dish. However, satellite companies such as Star Choice and Direc TV have dishes that allow you to connect up to 4 receivers with no additional hardware required.

The question is this? What do you need to connect more than two receivers? All you need is a multi switch. A multi switch allows you to connect 4, 8, 16 receivers. There are two types of multi switches standard definition and high definition type. The Standard definition allows you to watch all your regular channels. However, you cannot watch HDTV channels and most of the ethnic channels. The price is about double from one the standard receiver to the HDTV switch.

Theyre so many manufactures that make these multi switches. At the end, it is not much difference from which manufacture you choose. However, be careful when it comes to which you are installing. For instance a multi switch for ExpressVu doesnt work for Direct TV or Star Choice. However, it works for Dish Network. A Direc TV multi switch works for Star Choice though. Obviously, there are some restrictions according to how old or new is the receiver. Still, this is a good guideline for reference before you start buying a switch for your system.

Play and Record Television Digitally
The WinTV-HVR-850 is a simple-to-use device that brings over-the-air high definition ATSC digital TV as well as analog cable TV directly to your PC desktop or laptop. With the additional included antenna, it can also receive analog TV broadcasts.

More versatile than a DVR, the WinTV-HVR-850 is a pocket-sized device that simply plugs into your PC's USB port. It features a built-in digital ATSC over-the-air TV receiver. If you live in one of the more than 200 cities in the United States that receives ATSC digital TV, you'll have immediate access to as many as 1500 digital TV stations. ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HDTV standard for North America. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. (To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at titantv.com.)

A portable digital TV antenna, which can be used to receive digital TV up to 10 miles from an ATSC transmitter, is included with the PVR . If you live in an area where you can't currently receive ATSC digital TV, the WinTV-HVR-850 can still be used to watch and record analog TV from cable TV or a TV antenna. (The WinTV-HVR-850 cannot receive digital cable TV or digital satellite TV.)

Once the WinTV-HVR-850 is connected, you can begin to record your favorite shows in high-quality MPEG-2 directly to your hard disk using the Hauppauge SoftPVR MPEG-2 encoder. Television recordings will typically consume 5 GB of disk space per hour for ATSC high definition, while analog recordings will typically consume 1.5 GB of disk space per hour. You can also use the included WinTV-Scheduler to program your computer to record your favorite analog or digital TV shows for play back at any time.

Compatibility with Microsoft's Windows Media Center means that you can watch TV as well as your recordings with Windows Media Center. The included WinTV application also lets you watch your shows in a window or on full screen.

More about PVR Technology
PVR stands for PC Video Recorder. The WinTV-HVR-850 is a PVR that allows you to play television through your computer and record the broadcasts digitally. PVR doesn't use standard videocassettes; instead, it uses your computer's hard disk to store the broadcasts.

Once you record a television show to your PC's hard drive, you can burn a CD or DVD that will allow you to play the show back on another computer or on your television. With video editing software (not included with the WinTV-HVR-850), you can even edit the shows. This is a great feature if you want to save clips from movies or sitcoms, or keep your favorite player's grand slam or TD kick-off return for posterity.

And just like a typical VCR, the WinTV-HVR-850 offers you several recording options, depending on your play back needs. If you want the highest quality recording for playback through your HDTV, all you need is enough hard drive space to support high-quality recording. By using the lowest recording option, you can use your WinTV-HVR-850, along with an inexpensive video camera, as a low-cost on-site video surveillance system. In fact, the possibilities of how you can take advantage of the WinTV-HVR-850 are endless.

Customer Review: HDTV in a Stick

Customer Review: great product
I ordered this for my wife's Vista laptop and she did the installation - all went well. Works great on our cable.

Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) media format basically stores data with the finest visual and audio qualities. You would not want to purchase your favorite movies at skyrocketing prices and t find out they have been scratched or some data has been lost. DVDs are becoming less expensive, however you cannot take them granted, they can be destroyed. Thats why its good to know there is a method of copying. However, no matter how inexpensive they can be, you still cannot take for granted the loss that will overcome you once they are ruined. Good thing there is a method of producing a safety copy. DVDs called ripping.

It is essential that your computer support the software that will tolerate DVD ripping. To copy a DVD, insert the DVD you want to copy into the drive. Next, start verifying which files and folders you wish to copy. Upon inserting the DVD into the hard drive, a list of the files and folders will appear. It is important to note that the movie is usually placed in the video TS folder. This folder contains other files as well such as the .IFO file and the .VOB file. Customer Review: Great TV but wish I did more research
I have had this tv for about a year and half now and it has never given me any issues. However I bought it on an impulse and regret that as I would have gotten a Samsung instead after doing research albeit after the fact. I have seen Samsungs which definitely produces a truer black than the Sharp. In hindsight, I would have gotten one with a VGA port on it as well. Currently I am enjoying the 2 hdmi ports and the multiple component ports so I have no issues as they accomodate all my media needs perfectly. The virtual surround sound is incredible. It works way better than my previous tv (SONY WEGA). I did not get the extended warranty, and maybe I should have, but if it does go south for me - Samsung is where I am heading!
Customer Review: Sharp Aquos 46" Flat screen
I bought this Flat screen 14 months ago and main board went out. They told me repair was $1400 and were totally rude when I said TV is one year old and should not have bad board unless board was defective to begin with. Cindy Ranes basically told me to eat the TV and was totally useless to talk to on the phone. I would never buy another sharp product as it seems they make expensive throw away flat screens. Go ahead and buy if you want but be prepared to toss in a year or so as they are garbage.

Customer Review: Reliability issues
I purchased this TV a week ago. It arrived on a Friday; I took it out of the packaging and put it on the stand on Saturday; I went through the menus and set it up on Sunday; and Monday the screen wouldn't come on (and hasn't come on since). I opened a service ticket with Samsung with my warranty: they sent a tech out to my house to replace the system board, which had no effect. So I'm now waiting on a replacement DMD board, but they're out of stock, so this may be a while. So it's worked for me for just under two days. Not what I'd consider a sterling record.
Customer Review: WOW
Bought this Samsung HDTV a month ago. This is my first HDTV, so I may not be an expert, but the picture is beyond my wildest hopes. The details are bright, crisp, and first class. You can see everything that you always imagined could be possible with excellent hdtv. Look in the background of any scene and look at the books or dvds on shelves of the actors and you know who the characters are. I have owned big screen tv for over 25 years. Nothing compares to this picture. Just hope it lasts - the bulbs are known to go out quickly. I will follow up in a few months with updates. Make sure you are hooked up to hd cable or hd satellite receiver.

In short the answer is yes. Take for example Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 a 37-inch 720p LCD HDTV that received plenty of good consumer reviews thanks to it's excellent display quality even though it is a mere 720p LCD instead of a full HD (1080p) TV. And it's not just the picture. This TV is easy to setup, the menu navigation is intuitive, the built-in audio is pretty good and the user manual is complete. The price is also very reasonable which is a strong pulling factor for people who just can't justify spending thousands of dollars for an LCD TV.

Another good example is the Toshiba REGZA 42RV530U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. Curious just how good it is? Take a look at this list of some of it's strong points :

* HD channels and Blu-ray movies look awesome. Great picture for upconverted DVD and SD channels.
* Crisp and clear picture even on default settings. This is a good thing for those of you who don't want to be troubled with the tweaking the settings.
* For those who think the picture quality can be improved this set provide easy setup with plenty of tweaking options.
* Wide range of connections. 4 HDMI, 2 component, 2 composite, 1 S video, 1 VGA and 1 optical audio out.
* Great price! For a 42-inch 1080p HDTV the $1,100 price tag is a steal.
* Good sound quality with sound leveling feature
* Pretty good remote and easy to navigate menus.
* Very useful mute and half-mute feature
* Aesthetically appealing design.
* A very useful game mode.

Does All Toshiba LCD HDTV good?

For this question the answers is obviously no. Just like any other gadgets made by any other manufacturers there are always some bad apples in a barrel of good ones. As for Toshiba the 9HLV87 19-Inch LCD HDTV is clearly one of the bad apples. Crappy picture quality for standard channels, wacky volume settings for the built-in DVD player, immensely difficult menu system and the huge remote control are just some griefs customers discovered from this set.

Conclusion

Not All LCD TV from Toshiba are good a few of them is really a messy product. So, if you want to get yourself a Toshiba HDTV make sure you read the consumer reviews before you make your buying decision. What people think as a good/bad point may not be such a big deal for you. Just remember that your own personal preferences are the most important ones.

DVD recorders are devices that record data onto a DVD. DVDs are becoming a very good option for storing data because of their high storage capacities, reliability, cost and flexibility. DVD recorders have already replaced VCRs and CD recorders in most homes.

DVD recorders are ideal for storing all kinds of data including movies, TV shows and home videos. The recording quality is also much better than that from CDs or tapes. DVDs are mostly compatible with most recording formats including DVD-audio, CD-audio, DVD-R (write-once), DVD- RW (re-writable format of DVD-R), DVD+R (write once), DVD+RW (re-writable format of DVD+R) and DVD-RAM (re-writable with random access capability). With attractive options such as surround sound, progressive scan, recording options in DVD as well as VHS modes, twin recording formats (allows recording of two different programs on different channels simultaneously), and live TV pausing, DVD players are becoming a favorite with most people.

There are also DVD-VCR combos, which are ideal for playing both DVDs as well as VHS tapes. They also enable copying of home recordings from camcorder tapes or television recordings. Some of the top DVD-VCR combos are: the JVC DR-MX1S DVD/VCR/Hard Drive Recorder Combo, the LG LRY-517 Super-Multi DVD Recorder/VCR Combo, the Panasonic DMR-ES40VS DVD Recorder - VCR Combination, the Pioneer DVR-RT500 DVD Recorder/VHS VCR Combination, the Panasonic PV-DR2714 DVD Recorder/VCR/TV Combo, the Panasonic DMR-ES30VS DVD Recorder VCR Combination and the Sony RDR-VX500 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo. Samsung and Toshiba are some of the other manufacturers of this product.

Most of these DVD-VCR combos also have other advanced features, such as an 80GB or 160 GB hard drive, analog and Firewire AV inputs, video processing for enhancing image quality, flexibility in recording and playing, ability to record in all formats (DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL and DVD-RAM), built-in tuners compatible with antenna, cable or satellite boxes, S-video, DV (iLink, Firewire) video inputs, VHS recording and playback, and most importantly, progressive scan output for playback. Prices of these DVD recorder-VCR combos start from $200, but those with very good quality and more options have a minimum price tag of $300.

Professional or amateur, the Nikon D90 is a great fit for either. Nikon has taken flaws, from all other cameras, and improved on these features throughout the years. This has brought them to the D90, which offers numerous features, for consumers, in addition to brand new technology never been seen in a camera. The D90 is not as compact as a point-and-shoot camera, nor is it as robust as a professional camera, but it gets the job done with surprising results.

The ergonomic design provides a comfort fit, to nearly any hand, along with extremely easy access to all of the functions offered in the D90. Even though this model is a bit larger, dimensionally, than other cameras, it only weighs 22-ounces. Therefore, it is not as bulky as it appears, yet it does will not fit in your pocket.

Nikon has dramatically improved the user interface, from previous models. Navigation and additional features are easy to find and maneuver. Image re-touching can be done directly in the camera, and is easy enough for an amateur to master. Re-touching features include RAW development and straightening.

Imagine a 3.0-inch VGA screen with 920,000 colors - the D90 has this. Re-touching, instant viewing, and maneuvering through a camera have never been easier. Sharing images, with friends, via the display, can now be done without the frustrations of angle blockage.

The display also offers 170-degree wide-angle functionality for your viewing pleasure. Viewing and reviewing both video playbacks, and still images has never been more clear. Navigation, through media files, is nearly effortless with a 72-image calendar display. (Calendar display lays images and videos out in chronological order.)

Live View provides consumers with even more features and functionality. Using this feature, while capturing images, allows users to select from 11-autofocus settings. Some of the autofocus settings, users can choose from are single, dynamic, and face. Another great feature, which assists in spotless photos, is the integrated sensor cleaners. These cleaners automatically remove dust particles from internal sensors, removing the possibility of speckled photos.

Like many other cameras, users can manually adjust ISO settings to fit any type of lighting. ISO settings can be set as low as 200 or as high as 3200. Automatic focus, white balance, and exposure are available using 3-D Color Matrix Metering II. This technology analyzes a scene and adjusts these settings to the perfect combinations for flawless images.

The Nikon D90 is a 12.9-megapixel camera, with DX-format and CMOS sensor. The combination of this and Nikons Expeed image processing software helps in the creation of crisp, vivid imagery - every time.

A first, in the world of cameras, is the integration of digital SLR. This technology produces HDTV (720p) quality and allows for the capture of up to 23 frames per second. For the first time ever consumers can capture personal events and share them, with family, in the highest quality possible.

The D90 is a has an incredible mix of features that will make any level photographer happy. The price tag is not quite as low as a point-and-shoot, nor is it as high as a professional camera - it can usually be found for around $1,000. Regardless of your photography style or skill level, the Nikon D90 is a good fit for capturing your memories.

Samsung PN50B450 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

High definition 720p plasma has never looked so good. Thanks to its E-Panel technology, Samsung's PN50B450 is able to deliver stunningly smooth video reproduction. First, 600Hz Subfield Motion improves the continuity between frames, creating seamless, lifelike motion. Second, an incredibly fast 0.001ms pixel-response time minimizes blurring in fast-action sports and movies. Further, FilterBright technology reduces panel glare for improved performance in rooms with ambient lighting. Finally, a Game Mode speeds up processing and sharpens detail for an optimal gaming experience.
Customer Review: Samsung 50 inch plasma 720p
This TV is amazing. The picture is fabulous, The controls for Samsung are very intuitive and easy to use, connections are easy and have many options. And the delivery - top notch. I would not hesitate to recommend, this TV or Amazon delivery to anyone. This is my second Plasma n 2 years, both from AMAZOn. I am a happy camper.
Customer Review: WOW!!
I Just picked up this TV at BB. I was just in the store walking around and went over to check out the PN50A450 but they had this next to the 1080p plasma from Samsung. This TV looked AMAZING. It was next to a couple of Samsung's LCDs which looked much brighter but the colors were horrible. But I knew the brightness of the Plasma is just fine at home and the colors are very accurate. Put it in the truck making sure it stayed completely vertical and set it up at home - wow! Have my ps3 hooked up watching Blu-Rays on it and we are amazed at how great the picture looks. I haven't tweaked any of the settings but it looks stunning out of the box. It does have 2 component inputs even though they aren't listed on here or on any location on the net for some reason, one of the reasons I was gunning for the A450 until I saw this. It also has a very slight touch of red color that you can only really tell if a brighter light is on. The remote is pretty cheap, it almost feels like a fisher price unit. The remote itself does not have discreet input switching but I am pretty sure it accepts discreet IR commands if you have a universal like a Harmony. The TV has a welcome mode that helps you set it up when you plug it in which was pretty cool. Oh and the stand swivels which is pretty nice. Overall this TV is amazing, it is like watching it at the theater. I can't speak for the longevity or if any problems pop up, since I just got it, but I'll update if there are any problems! ______UPDATE AFTER A WEEK OF HEAVY USE________4/19/09____ A few things I can update after using this thing to play a ton of Call of Duty World at War, the NHL/NBA playoffs, and Blu Rays: I have experienced no burn in or IR issues. I have the pixel shift enabled at 2 2 2 in case you were wondering. But we play a ton of video games on this and it has been fine. I also lowered the contrast from the default settings by about 15 which did not affect picture quality. This TV also generates barely any heat. After hours of usage I check with my hand and there are two small locations near the vents on the top back that are warm at best, but the rest of the TV is mostly cool to the touch still. I find this phenomenal considering my Samsung LCD that is next to it (2006 Model) generates at least 3 times as much heat. Another thing to mention is how much you will get used to having no motion blur. We had the Cleveland/Detroit game on both the plasma and lcd and when I was looking at the LCD, I couldn't believe I had been OK with all the motion blur you see in LCDs. There is none in the plasma. Also, the blacks and colors are so much better than an LCDS you will hate watching anything on an LCD after watching on this. The only cons I have found so far is that the power and other buttons on the unit itself are touch sensitive, kind of like a PS3, but they are small and it is really difficult to see which one does which because the locations match the dark black of the frame so you have to kind of run your finger over the buttons and hope you are aiming your finger at the right one. Of course, most people use their remote for this. Another con is that the frame and stand collect dust very easily, however, it takes 2 seconds to wipe off with the towel. The screen, however, does not collect anything and has stayed crystal clean since it's installation.

These days, there is no doubt about it, when you go shopping for any electrical or electronic goods; you are faced with a bewildering selection of models and brands to choose from.

In this case we are in the market for digital video equipment, and you have several ways to go about finding it. You can go into town and visit some retailers and view the various brands firsthand. You will have to listen to the various sales pitches of course, but you may also get lucky and find some knowledgeable staff.

The main problem with this approach is finding an unbiased dealer, as obviously a dealer who is affiliated with a certain brand of digital video equipment is going to extol the virtues of that brand at the expense of other possibly equally good brands.

My preferred option is to find review sites on the net, of which there are many. The best are the independent review sites and the sites which contain user reviews, the latter especially should have no hidden agendas, as their opinions are based on their own personal experiences. If you take this route be prepared for a lot of surfing the net and a lot of reading. You can cut it down a bit by going to sites such as cnet.com which provide a lot of prices and information.

Another route is to have a look at the various consumer magazines, which usually list some of their review information online, or of course you could always subscribe for a month or two. These publications should prove to be totally unbiased in their product reviews, and as such are a good source of information on all manner of consumer goods.

In summary, I would say the wise option would be to do your research online, make a shortlist, then go down town and see the item in the flesh. If you can not get a good price and a good warranty in town, go back to your computer and buy your digital video equipment online.

DVD storage for most people that collect their favorite DVDs or blu ray discs are of major importance these days. Everyone has that collection of media that outlasts their existing storage unit whether its a tower or a cabinet of some sort. If your like me you have a tower full of DVDs and keep adding the others on the ground next to the tower so its nothing but cluttered.

To avoid having your DVDs lying on the actual DVD player itself or just stacking the DVD jackets on the ground you should look into various DVD storage units that accommodate a growing number of DVDs in your never ending collection. They come in a variety of options such as storage cabinets, cases, towers and even portable units which come in small, medium and large.

There are several color schemes and options for DVD storage and there is no limit to what you can purchase. Many of the big retail centers like Best Buy, Target and Walmart offer several storage units but many individuals look to the internet to look at reviews and find the right option for their audio video storage.

Selecting the right multimedia storage unit is strictly personal preference. You can find storage cabinets, storage cases, adjustable or detachable shelves and single, double and even triple drawers with locking options as well. Most DVD storage units serve a twofold purpose as a CD storage unit as well. CD storage cabinets are very popular and many people use one media storage cabinet that serves two functions. This is a popular method and is probably the most cost effective.

Some of the dvd storage options come with a floor mount or wall mount setup. They also have tower storage units with a 360 degree swivel base for easy access to your collection. There are also foldable more compact options so that you may store your collection out of harms way from pets and children. They can be stowed away under a bed or piece of furniture or if you prefer to hide them in a closet for safekeeping.

When you decide to purchase a multimedia storage unit be sure to research all the latest and greatest units out there and get one that has durability and reliability first and foremost. The internet is great for reading reviews on all the best brands and then go to your local Walmart or Best Buy and find the particular product or just purchase online.

An LCD TV needs a complete set of installation to perfectly hang it in your home entertainment area. The most impressive feature in LCD TV or Plasma TV is their slimmest design that is not more than 3.5 to 4 in. thick. Due to its flat and slim design, LCD TV gives the option to hang them on the wall by using LCD mount or ceiling mount if you are using it in your bedroom. You can also go for a column floor stand or standard table stand that looks elegant in your room. The option of hanging a flat panel display on the wall is totally dependent on the size of the television. If it is the latest type 50 inch high definition rear projection television, then it takes the floor space of about 13 in by 44 in. Less complicated 50 inch HD LCD TV with LCD mount takes zero floor space, so it is the type of TV that demands perfect installation.

The wall mountable characteristic of an LCD TV becomes an important criteria for people who want to have them in small living area. You need to do a simple planning before you go for an installation of flat panel display. First fix an optimum location for your flat panel TV, then determine if you have enough space to run cables from various sources to your television at very short distance and finally select suitable LCD mount for your LCD HDTV. If you have little experience and possess minimum DIY skill like drilling and using spirit level to find the correct level for TV panel, then go ahead or it may lead to problems in the future. It is not a big deal, you just need to properly specify the measurement and fix a correct level to mount the TV panel.

When you buy a flat panel television, you get the manual that instructs you on how to fix your LCD on the mount and the same is for LCD mount device that also comes with instructions, so you need to plan a little to get the job done.

A LCD HDTV weighs nearly 30% to 40% less than a Plasma TV, so it is easier to handle and a typical 46 inch LCD HDTV weighs over 75 pounds. It is generally advised not to hang your TV facing doors and large windows where the sunlight directly falls on the screen. Though the LCD HDTV has anti-glare technology, you must avoid sunlight falling on the screen. Try to find enough floor space in case of pedestal type LCD mount and wall space with the minimum of twice the screen width for placing speakers.

The elegant design of the 19LV506 is the perfect complement to your kitchen decor, and you won't have to compromise shelf or counter space for style and performance. Multi digital tuning allows for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital "cable-in-the-clear" broadcasts. Using PC input, the 19LV506 can be used in conjunction with a computer, and the A/V input, HDMI and component input can be used for gaming and receiving HD broadcasts. The built-in DVD player makes this LCD HDTV a convenient and feature-rich viewing solution.
Customer Review: Great picture and sound issues are resolvable
I've had the Toshiba LV506 for about two months now. I bought it for my 18' Eco trailer and mounted it with an articulating arm which places it near the end of the bed. Some of the reviewers felt the sound wasn't up to par so I looked at alternatives. I'm used to a quality home theater with excellent surround sound in my living room but didn't want to spend a lot of money for the trailer install. Instead, I bought a two speaker computer system with subwoofer from Creative Labs and custom fitted this around and below the TV. This truly makes up for any short coming of the tv speakers and the wiring is very simple and straight forward. The only thing I need worry about now is keeping the volume low at night when staying in campgrounds and RV parks because the subwoofer does rock nicely. I purchased the Creative Labs computer system for under $30 with free shipping.
Customer Review: Best Buy!
In my opinion this tv is the best deal going for a 19 inch unit. Picture is very good and the DVD works great. Sound is a little tinny as it is with any tv this size. It takes large speakers for great sound and you cant fit them in a tv this size. Dont get me wrong. Sound is very acceptable within it's size limitations. The soft white color is a nice change from everything out there being black plastic. Remote is ergonomically correct. As always, first class service from Amazon. If you need a tv this size it is the way to go.

The Better Television Type - Is a Plasma Better Than LCD Or the Other Way Around?

Two prominent types of televisions are Plasma and LCD. Are they one and the same? Not in any way. Since it is apparent that many consumers are confused and misinformed about the dissimilarity of Plasma Televisions from LCD ones and vice versa, consider some factors on how to determine which technology best suits you.

To determine which between the two types of televisions which are Plasma and LCD is more superior cannot be decided easily. In fact, your conditions and likings are the factors that determine your choice. Nonetheless, to aid you in coming up with the right choice, let us first discuss the distinctions between the two, then the advantages and disadvantages for each and thereafter some false impressions about these Televisions.

When a flat screen Television having slim contour capable of being hanged on a wall is seen in a showroom, most people fail to differentiate which among these Televisions is Plasma type or LCD type. We must admit that both Televisions are state-of-the-art technologies as we find them really cool. Both have remarkable screen resolution and input types and can be considered similar in several more aspects, however, it must be remembered that there are dissimilarities proving them as entirely distinct technologies.

This article is not intended to put in plain words the technical function of both LCD and Plasma Television but instead inform you of their genuine and realistic distinctions as necessary aids in arriving at a proper decision. Nonetheless, some essential function shall be shortly explained to enlighten you the rationale of the differences between the two.

Plasma Television has with it pixels comprised of phosphor lined cells. These cells are packed with neon and xenon gas. There are blue, green and red components contained by each pixel and they blend together to create the complete spectrum of colors. An "emissive" exhibit of technology meaning self-lighting is how such type of Television is regarded.

On the other hand, LCD Televisions are distinguished from Plasma Televisions as a "transmissive" display of technology. This denotes that LCD lights is sourced at the rear of the panel and not generated via the LCD crystal. In order to pass on the light as well as to distribute the same, what is being used is the diffusion panel which is found at the rear of the LCD panel. There are two translucent panels containing a fluid crystal solution at the middle is what forms the LCD Panel. These crystals are similar to a shutter that permits on one hand and blocks on the other a prearranged quantity of light to and from crossing.

With the preceding basic facts mentioned plus all information and misapprehensions known elsewhere, can you now choose the more superior Television for you? To further aid you with your choice, let us know more about each by determining their advantages and disadvantages. Take note that there is a massive range of quality surrounding both technologies and for the sake of making a comparison, equal quality of each Plasma Television and LCD Television shall be the basis of comparison.

What's good about Plasma Televisions?

Most likely, the facts that Televisions of Plasma type are capable of giving high black levels, that they have a vast viewing angles, and that their response duration is quicker are the three most prominent advantages of such types of televisions. The ability of Plasma Televisions to provide better black levels denote that when you are gazing at a black image, you can see a clearer disparity in the black pictures as the Plasma type reproduces black more similar to a genuine black as compared to an LCD type. In watching a movie, there are scenes which are dark and when you watch them on a fine Plasma Television, you will definitely perceive the color which, in contrast, appears as dreadfully dark gray or probably dark blue when watched in an LCD Television. In addition, there are more details noticed in Plasma Televisions while watching dark scenes than in LCD types for the reason that the latter's light, being transmissive, is being blocked from passing through when reproducing one black image. The latter do not provide a black image as good as Plasma TVs because the light that was able to pass through is only in a small amount. Although LCDs evolved into better technologies producing improved black levels than the previous ones, it does not defeat Plasma TV as being better in the area.

The second prominent advantage of Plasma Televisions is it having a vast viewing angle. This denotes that pictures of Plasma TVs is maintained as bright and sharp even when viewed from the farthest side, or beyond or beneath. In contrast, LCDs' display become lesser bright plus it is more difficult to view the same from extreme angles. In order for such issue not to be regarded as factor worth considering in decision making by many people, LCD's viewing angles were drastically enhanced.

Quicker response duration is another distinguishing advantage of Plasma Televisions. This denotes that the duration for which pixels transform from colored black to white and then vice versa is faster in Plasma Televisions as compared to LCD Televisions. This further denotes that the former perform a better operation regarding speedy motion images like video games and sports. In contrast, LCD TVs are prominent for producing "ghosting", an industrial term, causing slower response time. However, substantial developments have already been made on LCD Televisions regarding concerns on viewing angles plus its black levels. At present, most LCD Televisions respond in 8ms, thus resulting to it being eradicated as an issue but several still protest about the minor ghosting effects experienced in LCDs.

Do you think Plasma Televisions can only survive for 5 years? No, they don't. Such fact is a mere misapprehension of the technology. Two other misapprehensions about such type of televisions are that there is a necessity to replace every now and then the plasma gas as it is capable of leaking and that if an image is left for several hours on the screen, there is a possibility for said screen to suffer "burn in."

In the past, the plasmas that were earlier manufactured were not created to survive very long. However, for the few previous years, approximately about 60,000 hours or 20 up to 25 years became the plasma panel's life expectancy which is actually equivalent to that of LCD Televisions. Since the electronic parts of both an Televisions, LCD and Plasma, are more probable of short survival as compared to the plasma panel, such issue is no longer a factor worth considering in both technology.

During the early manufactured Plasma Televisions, the vulnerability of these to burn in of TV screens had been a great concern for the reason that the same are comprised of phosphor based image. This denotes that when a static image like video games or CNBC Ticker symbol were left on the screen in a long duration, said image will be embedded into the Television with permanence. Consequently, the same will be successfully ruined. What adds to the dilemma is the fact the TV's producers do not include such defect in their Warranty coverage. Notwithstanding these facts, I have only witnessed few and small cases with screen burn as an issue during my retailing years. Manufacturers of Plasma TVs have already undertaken steps in order to at most eradicate such worries of many users. Hence, if you are someone who excessively desire to watch only a single channel on a daily basis, greater chances will be for your Television to suffer burn in. Such factor considered, LCD TV is way more superior than Plasma Television.

Every now and then, there are still worries about Plasma TVs as having probability of gas leaks though it may not be heard often. Such fact is actually another misapprehension of the technology. During the process of manufacturing, the plasma panel's gas found in it is actually fastened. Thus, there is no probability of gas leaking and that it is no longer necessary for it to be replaced.

What about pros of LCDs?

Among the advantages attached to LCD Televisions include the fact that they are cost effective in energy more than Plasma TVs, that they are easier to carry as being lighter in weight, that a more vivid image is provided for by the same, and lastly, that an anti-reflective screen is comprised by many LCD Televisions.

Other than being cost effective in energy resulting to lower electric bill, electronics also survive longer. Obviously, when electronics are used even if hot or when they are overly used, the expected consequence will be a quicker life. Plasmas have the tendency to be less effective and most likely create heat more than LCDs.

LCD Televisions being frequently more suitable in vivid rooms is another advantage of the same. For Plasma TVs, the glass used for its creation is frequently very reflective. This connotes that when lots of direct lights land on the TV screen, you will suffer a lot of vivid light with your Plasma Television. Such is not a concern in LCDs since a lot of these technologies are flat-finish or that it is comprised of an anti-glare screen which averts vividness. If however this becomes an issue since some LCD TVs employ a reflective screen above the panel, always remember to test and evaluate the Television prior to buying the same.

If you weigh both an LCD Television and a Plasma Television, you will notice that the former is lighter than the latter. This is so because what makes up Plasma panels are two glass panels, mostly in huge sets, which necessarily makes the Television a little heavier. Although it may well function when your TV is dangled at the wall or transferred, the same must still be taken cared of similarly when they're being mounted since they are indeed heavy and difficult to handle.

In addition, if you compare LCD Televisions with Plasmas, you will observe that the former is brighter. It is actually an advantage which may be otherwise in some instances. This is beneficial when you are viewing in a brightly lighted room. However, for rooms with low light, a TV having lesser vividness works better a lot.

Initially until the previous year, LCD Televisions are somewhat more expensive than Plasma ones. Nonetheless, there was sudden decline of its prices when the manufactures were able to discover ways to create larger panels meaning smaller LCD panels can be "cut" from a bigger panel. Substantial decrease of prices indeed occurred making LCD Televisions as equally valued with Plasma TVs.

With the development of newer 1080p resolution, LCD Televisions indeed became more prominent the fact that it provides a progressive resolution of 1920 x 1080. More and more LCD Televisions having 1080p resolution were made available in the market notwithstanding the fact that Plasma Televisions with the same resolution are out in the market in the previous six (6) months.

Decision Making Process

Now comes the decision making process as to which technology is best to acquire. Definitively, it's difficult to state what technology is highly advisable Television which is worth your investment. For me, I stand with Plasma Television as having a better image. I may be a bit biased and I am aware that most people prefer LCD Televisions as for them, it provides a more superior image. But in my own belief, Plasma is better as it has a more natural image, that it has more precise color reproduction, and that it has black levels way more superior than LCD ones.

To decide on which among this two technologies to choose is actually very strenuous. LCD Television prices have substantially decreased and whatever issues it previously has, they were enhanced to the great extent. Necessarily, if you make a comparison, you can hardly distinguish both from each other. Undoubtedly, image quality and the price are some things which can highly affect your choice, however, at present, you can acquire either for a huge price.

What then are the factors to be considered to come up with the most appropriate decision? Do you live in an enormously bright room? Is there an existence of direct light that may land on your Television? Are you are fond of watching only one channel daily? Do you frequently play video games in an entire day? If your answer is in the affirmative, LCD TV shall be best for you, whether it's a cheap LCD TV or not, or whatever brand it may be. Purchasing a Samsung LCD Television over a Panasonic LCD Television or a Sharp LCD Television doesn't matter since all of them function similarly.

On the other hand, if you love watching sports and you prefer one with best image quality plus you live in a surrounding having lesser light, Plasma Television is highly recommended.

Whatever choice you make, whether you purchase a Plasma or an LCD type of Television, you will definitely be satisfied. At present, every aspect of both Plasma and LCD Televisions have significantly developed.
